e-Orientation for Practice Education
The eOrientation for Practice Education (eOPE) project examined the feasibility and requirements to develop eOrientation tools to support student practice placements. The project funded development during 2006 of a Learning Management System (LMS) integrated with HSPnet, including an eOPE Content Repository integrated with course authoring, access, and tracking tools published via Moodle, a publicly available course authoring system. The project also introduced Student Access to HSPnet, allowing eligible students to view information about their upcoming placement, schedules, and key contacts. A pilot involving 84 students was undertaken in Fall 2006 and Winter 2007, the results of which are presented in the final project report.
The resulting eOPE module of HSPnet supports:
· development of eOrientation content for receiving sites
· sharing of content across sites and health authorities via the eOPE Repository
· assignment of eOPE content to students in preparation for their upcoming practice experience, and
· tracking of completion as a measure of compliance with orientation requirements.
