Managing Practice Education - Capacity Management Tool

Capacity Management Tool

The Capacity Manager Tool (CMT) encompasses a set of tools to plan and monitor Target Placement Capacity at the level of a Destination (unit or program) and then to aggregate this functionality at the level of Service, Site, Health Authority, and discipline.  Capacity planning and building occurs through setting equitable targets based on HA or other standards (i.e. student-to-staff ratios), historical placement patterns as appropriate, recruitment targets, and/or projected student enrollment levels. The CMT also tracks historical and current Capacity Utilization , thereby allowing Placing and Receiving agencies to "find" available capacity among units in the event of changing student requirements.

The CMT module delivers the following key functions:

Enhanced Destination Profile:

    • Profile/Schedule - destination address (if different from site address), program description, populations served, days/hours of operation, and upcoming closures
    • Typical Staffing - ability to define staffing types by discipline/subdiscipline, shifts worked, and ability to accept students
    • Destination Contacts - expanded list of destination contacts including multiple roles such as unit manager, educator, unit clerk, and backup coordinator
    • Placement Capacity - “target” capacity information (individual and group placements) by discipline, including a schedule of available group shifts and/or individual spaces by term, developed through completion of a user-friendly wizard
    • Capacity Utilization - an instant summary of utilization (accepted and confirmed placements) against target capacity.

Online alerts  if group size or other request parameters exceed the maximum allowed for the specified destination.

Online reporting via the Capacity Utilization screen, which graphically summarizes historical utilization for planning or comparison purposes, or can be filtered to the current or upcoming Term for purpose of "finding" available space.
